Photographs from The Daybook Series The character, Mrs. Vera was created by Michael Johnstone and his partner David Faulk Mrs. Veras is the imaginary keeper of wigs and artifacts from Johnstones lost culture. A rich queer culture of individuals lost to the early and subsequent AIDS epidemic years. The layers of objects in the costumes embody fragments of a drag memory tornado says Johnstone. Faulk uses recycled items to create the original hats shoes and costumes clothing and accesories to be used in the photographs. The series examines aspects of isolation , participation , alienation , and survival using visual irony ,humor and saturated color to convey the many ways that Vera traverses the interior and exterior world. In public, Mrs. Vera (David Faulk) and Johnstone (Mister Tina) have become ambassadors at events and festivals. Hoping to remind people to value difference and celebrate the everyday as well as eccentric aspects of daily life. They often engage friends to participate in group performances under the name of Verasphere In particular their annual march with the San Francisco LGBTQ Pride Parade and numerous other spontaneous public events For more current events and information got to our Facebook page |
